Depending on the vessel type, the personnel most likely to be Nautilus members are shipmasters, chief engineers and other deck and engineering officers (navigation, engineering and electrotechnical).
On cruiseships and ferries these crew can also include senior hotel and onboard services staff, medical staff and specialist personnel such as safety, security, environmental and ventilation officers. Sometimes a vessel's ratings are also members if Nautilus has a 'single union' agreement with the company.
Where other unions do not organise, Nautilus will accept ratings as members.
